Renewable energy development and energy sovereignty are key priorities of the Prosperity Party.
Among the sectors that suffered historical neglect, renewable energy development and ensuring energy sovereignty stand out as primary priorities for the Prosperity Party. This focus is driven by two main reasons. First, it is essential for Ethiopia to utilize its vast renewable energy potential. Second, it is necessary to reduce the impact of polluting energy sources and the risks of dependency. The effects of polluting energy and dependency risks can threaten national interests, sovereignty, and even the overall survival of the natural environment, making them matters of national security. Especially at a time when supplies of polluting energy sources such as fuel are highly disrupted, the global shift toward renewable energy has become increasingly urgent.
In this context, Ethiopia has already begun doing its groundwork to develop renewable energy and ensure energy sovereignty. Under the reform government, this effort has received significant attention and is advancing to a higher level. Accordingly, practical measures have been taken that consider Ethiopia’s potential and aspirations for growth, while also anticipating possible disruptions in global fuel and other polluting energy supplies. The completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam stands as a leading symbol of this commitment. Likewise, the recently inaugurated Asella Wind Power Project and the large-scale solar power project built within the Hawassa Industrial Park clearly demonstrate both the priority given to the sector and the preparatory efforts made.
During the previous election, the Prosperity Party clearly outlined renewable energy and energy sovereignty in its manifesto and has been fulfilling its promises in practice. In the current election as well, it has incorporated the sector into its manifesto with a forward-looking focus. By aligning words with actions, the Party is ensuring that Ethiopia advances in securing its renewable energy and energy sovereignty in line with its potential, development ambitions, and global contributions.
Beyond meeting its own energy needs, Ethiopia has begun supplying power to neighboring countries, fostering regional integration through energy, infrastructure, and trade. This has enabled the country to gain significant national, regional, and global benefits.
As a testament to these efforts, Ethiopia has been selected to host the COP-32 global climate conference. This reflects the combined outcome of vision, principles, and concrete actions.
All these achievements together serve as clear evidence that Ethiopia’s prosperity is inevitable and progressing along a reliable path. This makes the Prosperity Party the right choice to secure continued public support in building a prosperous nation powered by renewable energy.
