Our industrialization advancement demonstrates that our vision of making Ethiopia a model nation in Africa is on track to succeed.

One of the core priorities clearly set by our Party, the Prosperity Party, is economic transformation. The Party’s economic program aims to build an inclusive economic system that ensures sustainable development and equitable benefit for all citizens. Its major goals include establishing a diversified economy, ensuring social justice through quality growth and productivity, building a knowledge-driven economy that promotes innovation and wealth creation, and expanding urbanization and modern urban development.

Through the reform direction introduced to transform the economy from a single-sector structure into a diversified, inclusive, and competitive system, Ethiopia has registered remarkable achievements. One of the strongest pillars of this transformation is the manufacturing industry. In this regard, the “Made in Ethiopia” movement and the Rural Industrialization 3-2-1 Initiative have become major drivers of national progress.

These initiatives are playing a significant role in producing import substitutes, creating millions of job opportunities, generating foreign currency through exports, strengthening wealth creation, improving family livelihoods, and advancing Ethiopia’s economic transformation and sovereignty.

The recent launch of the Gelan Gura Industrial Park and the rapid completion and operationalization of the large-scale ceramics manufacturing factory in Mojo town clearly reflect the success of Ethiopia’s industrialization advancement. During the inauguration ceremony of the Mojo ceramics factory, the President of our Party, Abiy Ahmed(PhD), emphasized that Ethiopia managed to save more than 4.85 billion USD in foreign currency within only nine months by replacing imported products with domestic production. He further noted that the ceramics factory will not only reduce dependence on imported goods but also strengthen Ethiopia’s competitiveness in the global market.

The manufacturing sector has shown encouraging achievements overall. The number of manufacturing industries has increased from 18,747 in the 2010 Ethiopian fiscal year to 27,764 today. Capacity utilization in the sector has grown from 46 percent in the 2014 fiscal year to 66.3 percent by the first half of the 2018 fiscal year. Export earnings also increased from 308.12 million USD in the 2010 fiscal year to 380 million USD in the 2017 fiscal year. Similarly, the manufacturing sector’s contribution to economic growth doubled from 5.5 percent in the 2010 fiscal year to 10.7 percent in the 2017 fiscal year.

Going forward, Ethiopia is working to achieve an average manufacturing growth rate of 22.9 percent, increase the sector’s contribution to the national economy to 17.2 percent, and raise manufacturing export revenues to 8.9 billion USD. Additional plans aim to increase the sector’s domestic market share to 60 percent and create five million jobs.

The rapid advancement achieved within a short period has fundamentally transformed the slow progress the sector experienced for decades. It demonstrates that clear vision, proper leadership, and determined efforts toward national development can bring transformational change.

This experience further strengthens the Prosperity Party’s commitment to renewing its democratic mandate for the next five years and fully realizing the vision of making Ethiopia a model nation in Africa.

Therefore, we call upon all citizens to continue strengthening their contribution to this remarkable journey of prosperity and transformation so that together we can reinforce our historic role in building a stronger and more prosperous Ethiopia.
