A democratic transition can only be achieved through a constitutional order and an electoral process.

Our country’s modern political history is short. Moreover, our political culture has remained underdeveloped and unchanged for a long time. This situation has held us back from progressing as a nation and people in the way we aspire and deserve. Whenever we attempt to move forward, the journey has often turned into a costly cycle of destruction and rebuilding, a zero sum struggle. To break this cycle, the reform government has undertaken significant changes in thinking, systems, and institutions.

These reforms have enabled us to overcome major challenges and safeguard the country from collapse and disintegration. By using these reforms as a bridge, we have witnessed broad transformations and rapid progress in a short period. Our people and various observers have repeatedly recognized this remarkable journey of resilience and development, and have appreciated the government for delivering on its promises. This shared reality is further being confirmed by the active public participation seen in the 7th General Election process.

However, at the same time, some opportunistic groups are attempting to seize power through unconstitutional means by undermining the constitutional order. These actors, who fail to understand Ethiopia’s history and current realities, who disregard the importance of national order, and who prioritize personal interests over the country and its people, are calling for the establishment of so called transitional or chaotic governments. Some are even collaborating with historical adversaries to destabilize the country and undermine the legitimacy of the government.

These failed politicians, who have long pursued destabilizing paths without success, have chosen this critical moment, the 7th General Election, to push their agenda. This clearly demonstrates their hostility toward the sovereignty of the Ethiopian people and the development of democratic culture.

Indeed, such destructive intentions aimed at creating instability are not new, especially during election periods. Therefore, the government has taken adequate preparatory measures to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, democratically, fairly, and inclusively. The government and the public stand united with a clear and firm position, Only through elections. Together, they are safeguarding the constitutional order and the democratic process.

Therefore, any entity seeking to lead Ethiopia must understand and accept that the responsibility of governing the country can only be attained through legal and peaceful competition, and only with the consent of the people, the true holders of power. Any attempt outside this framework is not only doomed to fail but also constitutes a serious crime that will result in strict accountability.

Only through elections!

Ethiopia will decide;

It will uphold a legal, peaceful, and democratic process.
